The Playstation Phone, Xperia PLAY, Releases Soon

Gamers everywhere will be able to rejoice when the Xperia PLAY releases either in the end of March or the beginning of April 2011. No longer will you have to leave your gaming addiction at home: now you’ll be able to take it on the road.
Handheld gaming is nothing new, ranging back from the days of Game Gears to Game Boys and the PSP used today. Even though Sony is developing their NGP (the PSP2), they are also finding a way to bridge the ever-growing mobile technology to hand-held gaming, optimizing it for players on the go.

People question whether the PLAY (aka the Playstation Phone) is moot in comparison to the NGP—why are there going to be two new hand-held consoles releasing the same year? The answer is simple: it gives the player choice.

Now a player can either grab both his PSP and cell phone when he’s on the go, or he can just grab his PLAY and have video games at his fingertips. Also, the game market for the PSP2 and PLAY will offer different gaming selections, making them both unique.

The Xperia PLAY will sport a touch screen front, which slides up to reveal the gaming buttons, similar to that of a standard PlayStation controller. It runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread, and hosts 380MB Ram, a 5MP camera, and 1GHz Scorpion processor.

So far, the UK version of the PLAY will be released for sure in April. The US date is still pending.
